Hi there! I’m Dr. Bob Connolly, Psy.D, Founder, Owner, and Chief Idealist of Connolly Counseling and Assessment.
Watching my dad go through the turmoil of OCD and crippling anxiety has been the fuel of my career. If I can help anyone overcome the same tragedy of his last years, I want to do that. Too many people carry the silent burden of anxiety, depression, or trauma, alone.
I want to help.
I believe in the psychological process. I believe in the power of therapy, of having someone to help you sort through your thoughts and feelings, deal with them, confront them, and move forward. I have faith in my power to help people feel better.
Sure, there’s plenty in the world to feel anxious about, but the way people today criticize themselves – tear themselves apart – is an epidemic, one I can help stop.
I’ve met so many therapists who aren’t passionate about therapy. It’s too easy to half listen, nod, make notes, and schedule the next appointment. It’s easy to follow a script, simply reacting, and not truly helping someone get better.
I don’t do that. I’m not like that. I tore up that script a long time ago.
I love what I do because every day I can help people be kinder to themselves. I get excited. I really talk to my clients. I listen for what people don’t say and hear what they do say. I hold my clients compassionately accountable and I never, ever get complacent.
I haven’t met you yet, but I already believe in you.
How you feel right now, why you’re here looking for someone to help you, I get it. I struggle with my own demons, my own anxieties and fears. So much of what’s going on inside of you can be attributed to your self critic.
It’s that voice in your head telling you you’re not good enough or that you don’t deserve happiness. It’s the voice that makes you feel like an imposter and like you’ll never fit in anywhere.
I hate your self critic.
My whole practice, my whole purpose in life revolves around defeating your self critic and silencing that voice. Together, we can get your self critic to take a hike, sit down and shut up.
